Okay okay, so it IS the most wonderful time of the year afterall...

Merry [belated] Christmas to everyone. We had a great day, Tyler was absolutely loving every minute of it. Of course, it was probably a bit much in retrospect. We started opening presents at 8:30 and finished at 5:30 (not counting the ones that arrived today in the mail...) No, I didn't get those times backwards, we really spent most of the day opening presents, it was fun. I made Tyler a train table, and Gail and Paul supplied a lot of the tracks and accessories for him. We set it up in the back room with some chairs blocking his view... it was our attempt at getting him to open most of the presents before just gluing himself to the trains... but it didn't last long when he opened a new train and immediately wanted to go put it on the tracks... he ran into the chairs and was like "what the!?"... so we opened it up and he slowly walked over to the table, as if to say, "is this really here? where did this come from... Ah... who cares, let's play!". It was all over after that... not very interested in leaving it, not too interested in what else there was to open, but we eventually convinced him that there was more neat stuff to unwrap... then he got back into it. It was fun. Thanks everyone for everything, and we hope you all had a great day as well!

"It's the most, wonderful time of the year"

...yeah right...Johnny Mathis probably wasn't losing his job when he wrote that song... But seriously... I assume you all heard by now, Qimonda is consolidating the R&D for North America under one roof...unfortunately, that roof is in Cary, North Carolina. They are closing our office. Roughly 50 people out of the 130 that I work with will be given the opportunity to relocate. We will find out who is eligible on January 11th. Needless to say the timing could be better, given the baby on the way in February and the new house and all, but all said and done, Katie and I are doing just fine. We will try to stay right where we are, but to be honest, there are not a lot of semiconductor test engineering jobs up here (shocking, I know).

Enough about that though, because after all, this IS a wonderful time of the year, and Tyler is enjoying every minute of it. Picking out the three, playing in the snow, building a ginger-bread house, trains, cookies, family and friends visiting... we are having fun.

I hope you all are enjoying the season as well, and we wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Today we took Tyler to an allergist (he's been getting some rashes and hives sort of randomly for a while now) and they did a few tests for some common allergies... Unfortunately, his reaction to cat, dog, and peanut were what they called "severe". Good to find out, but not good results I guess. He's definitely been around cats and dogs, but what spurred on the visit was a neighborhood dog that brushed up against his face and he broke out with nasty hives on his cheek. No shortness of breath or anything like that, but they prescribed an inhaler just in case, and suggested that we keep him away from them if possible. Apparently it depends on the amount of "dander" exposed to, what the reaction might be, but he figured with such a strong "positive" to the test, that an asthmatic reaction would not be unexpected.
The peanut thing has us a little more worried, because apparently his reaction was severe enough for the doctor to prescribe an Epi-pen. Yikes!

Train show

On Saturday we took Tyler to a "Train Show" at a local high school. It was more like a flea market for train stuff, mostly old electric ones. Some really neat stuff for sure, but we really just went to see the models all set up. There were some really elaborate lay-outs, one made entirely of legos by a little kid... impressive. I think Tyler could have stayed all day watching them go around and around... but my arms were killing me after 2 hours :-) Unfortunately they're all set up at about waist height, which for Tyler is over his head, so he couldn't see most of them without being held... which is fine, except as I said, he could watch them for hours. There was one really big one (I don't know the technical terms..."something"-guage) but it was BIG, and right next to it, was a tiny little one, almost like micro-machine size. The guy running it was also tiny (and come to think of it, looked a little like the guy that used to do the comercials for the micro machines, you know, the one who talked really fast) only he was, shall we say..."vertically challenged"?... you get the idea... but it was great, every single person that came over would say, "Oh look, a little one!.... ah....a little TRAIN... a little train...look...."... I wonder how many times a day he heard that. I have to admit, I did it myself.

Anyhow,I didn't take many pictures while we were there, but I took some videos of the trains.

The other pictures here are of Tyler begging for more hot chocolate... cooled off, of course.

finally, more pictures...

Sorry it's been so long since the last post. My laptop was busted and I finally got around to fixing it, so I could offload the pictures from my camera. There's lots of good ones here. As you can see, we've been busy as usual. And, for those of you who haven't heard, we have some other exciting news about the baby-on-board... IT'S A GIRL!!! Yeah, I know what you're thinking... "how can you be sure?"... I guess we can't be positive, but I'll just say this, technology is amazing... the doctor could clearly see an "inny" not an "outy" :-) She said she was "quite positive". We're so excited!

My company is having a photo contest for pictures from North America (for a calendar). I thought I would submit a few so I gathered some of my favorites up and figured I might as well share them here also...

Hi Everyone!
Sorry for the lack of updates lately... As most of you know I'm sure, we recently bought a new house and have been busy unpacking and getting settled in. So far Tyler has adjusted well to the new place, he seems very happy to have more space to run around, both inside and out! Anyhow, we haven't given up on the pictures and the blog, but have been a little side tracked recently.

Stay tuned.

Today we took Tyler to "A Day Out With Thomas" over in the Adirondacks at the Upper Hudson Railroad museum. Thomas was there for a ride, Sir Topam Hat was there for a photo, and every possible thing you could possibly put a Thomas face, logo, or picture on was for sale. Tyler had fun, he was so good... really excited to see a "life size" Thomas engine! He even got a temporary tatoo (sticker) of Thomas... and a t-shirt...and a train... and a placemat... and book...and another book... and a....

Finally, after 14.5 months, we're happy to announce that Mr Tyler Michael officially has teeth! His two front teeth popped through on St Patty's day...luck of the Irish I guess! Check 'em out...

What's this?

Well I hate to throw a curve ball at you, but it seems that Google, in their infinite wisdom, has some how broken the "Blogger" utilities that I use(d). I will still post pictures, but until they fix the new "feature" I will be using Picassa Web Albums.
It means you have to click on the album to view the pictures inside, and any of my comments will show up in the lower left when you're viewing the thumbs. Okay, enough talking, click here to check it out:

I will try to post links to new albums and videos on the blog here, but if you're really interested, you should probably bookmark the albums page, so you can get back there directly.
